Conference for Primary School Heads

23 – 26 January 2024

Soutelo (near Porto), Portugal

He sent them two by two … Accompaniment;

walking with our colleagues from and into the heart of our Ignatian tradition”

This is a unique formation meeting for the leaders of our schools – both those who have just started their mission as a Primary School Heads/Principals and those experienced in the role.

This conference is an opportunity to deepen our knowledge, discuss our common mission but also a chance to share practical experiences and build relationships among colleagues from schools across Europe and the Middle East.

Conference lectures, presentations, sharing sessions and workshops will focus on the theme: “He sent them two by two … Accompaniment; walking with our colleagues ‘from’ and ‘into’ the heart of our Ignatian tradition”.

The conference is divided into three parts:

I. In the first part, together with invited keynote speakers, we will collectively reflect on the context in which our schools operate and undertake a reflection on our mission – what are we being called to do today?

II. During second part of the conference, we will explore the pedagogical and spiritual attitudes that go with true accompaniment. Together, we will consider how we can accompany others so that they can personally experience the hope of Jesus and so better pass it on to those they serve. It will also be an opportunity to reflect on the kind of accompaniment we ourselves need.

III. The final part of the conference will be of a more practical nature. During it, we will have the opportunity to exchange experiences on how we, as School Heads, can accompany others in building a Jesuit school together.

We will also take time for personal reflection and quiet time. I hope that the Spirit will move within us and be a source of consolation.
