This year, 2023, we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Fr. Pedro Arrupe’s famous exhortation Men and Women for Others”. This famous address of Fr. Pedro Arrupe SJ (then General Superior of the Society of Jesus) to an international congress of alumni of Jesuit schools at Valencia in 1973, began a process of reflection and self-evaluation that led to the worldwide renewal of Jesuit education. The Golden Jubilee of the famous speech is an opportunity for all members of our school communities to reflect once again on these important words of Fr Arrupe.

The International Commission on the Apostolate of Jesuit Education (ICAJE) and Educate Magis have decided to offer Global Discernment Circles to commemorate the 50th Year of “Persons for Others”, with our Global Educators.  These Global Discernment Circles (GDC), scheduled to be held on November 9th, 2023, will be for a limited number of educators from the regions. However, the same discernment model with accompanying reflection guides will be made available for Educators from the Jesuit Global Network of Schools.

More information about this Global event you can find here: https://www.educatemagis.org/50th-year-of-persons-for-others/

For registered participants, JECSE is also preparing additional online formation activities. Through them, we would like to accompany people from our network in their preparation for the global Sharing and Listening cycles. We hope that the experiences and materials from these meetings will provide valuable inspiration for use in formation activities in schools.

In addition, reflections on the life and work of Fr Arrupe are regularly published on the Educate Magis platform: www.educatemagis.org.

We also encourage you to share with us ways of celebrating this important anniversary in your Provinces and Regions.
