“Learning by Refraction Masterclass+” is a part of JECSE’s pedagogical formation project, which aims to bring the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm (IPP) to our educators so that they can apply it in our Jesuit and companion schools. Together, we want to build a learning community around IPP that will reflect jointly on the Ignatian approach to the teaching-learning process in the 21st century.

“Learning by Refraction” (LbR) designed by Fr Johnny Go SJ and Ms Rita Atienza is already recognised worldwide as a valuable IPP paradigm: practical, up-to-date and grounded in the foundations of our Ignatian spirituality and pedagogy. We will have the great pleasure to count on both of them as trainers during this formation.
Masterclass+ is also an introductory training for those who would like to become IPP trainers/facilitators in their schools/regions in the future.

Participants:
Teachers and pedagogical leaders – those who make pedagogical decisions in their schools/institutions and/or lead pedagogical changes.
Expected results:
- The masterclass will offer participants a deep dive into the principles of Ignatian pedagogy in the 21st century.
- It will allow them to learn about the fundamental elements of IPP-LbR approach so that they can take IPP to their own classrooms.
- It will help educators to reflect on their own style of teaching and to incorporate these methodologies into their daily practice.
- It will help pedagogical leaders to implement the IPP in their schools and institutions.
- Finally, this training will allow participants to learn about other contexts and possibilities of IPP implementation by working with educators from the entire JECSE network.

What participants from previous trainings say:
In more than 25 years as a teacher in Jesuit schools, this is the first moment in which I think I have clear ideas on how to advance in the application of the IPP.
It will definitely help me to design more effective teaching that aims to shape my students into responsible conscious future generations. I will no longer teach just the content to my students but how to prepare themselves for the real world with a different Ignatian perspective.
It has a very up-to-date pedagogical framework and very valuable resources to develop very authentic learning experiences that place the student at the center of the teaching and learning process.
