Annual Delegates meeting 2022

From November 29th to December 2nd 2022, Education Delegates from almost all Provinces and regions of the JECSE network (Jesuit European Committee for Primary and Secondary Education) gathered in Dublin for their annual meeting.

The 23 members of JECSE Education Commission* representing Jesuit schools from Albania, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Malta, Lebanon, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Russia, United Kingdom joined together for 3 days of intense sharing, reflection, prayer, and discussion.

IPP LBR Train the Trainer Programme 2022

Finally, the long-planned Learning by Refraction/Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm (IPP) Trainers’ Training Workshop was held from October 3 to 7, 2022 in Alicante, Spain. Coming from 17 countries in Europe, Latin America, and Asia Pacific, a total of 42 educators converged in Casa Salesiano for this truly global program, hosted by our friends from Educación Jesuitas (EDUCSI).

JECSE Task Forces meeting 2022

On September 12th and 13th 2022, school leaders and experts in various fields from our JECSE network as well as several Education Delegates and JECSE Executive team members met in Drongen, Belgium. The meeting served as a formal start of JECSE´s Task Force approach to supporting European Jesuit schools in their mission.

After an introductory session, twenty participants coming from ten different European countries were divided in four different groups (Task Forces) each assigned to focus on a theme considered central to JECSE´s mission: Formation, Mission and Identity, Safeguarding, and Global Citizenship.

Ignatian Spirituality Online 2021

As we announced earlier, this spring JECSE and Educate Magis initiated a European pilot around Educate Magis’ new online Ignatian Spirituality Course. It was quite an experiment, since not only was the facilitator Gellert Merza (Educate Magis) hoping to further refine the course, but also we were wondering if a ‘spiritual deep dive’ would actually work well online. We are now looking back with sincere gratitude on an 8 weeks’ experience with 40+ participants from all over Europe.

Safeguarding Conference 2022

Jesuit schools are places where we want to provide high quality education in a safe and healthy environment. Only in this kind of setting can the children realise their full and holistic development. It is therefore our constant priority to promote and support a culture of protection and integrity within our school communities.

 One of the activities undertaken jointly by the Jesuit European Committee for Primary and Secondary Eduaction (JECSE) and the Centre for Ignatian Pedagogy (ZIP) in this regard was the conference “Protecting the minors in our schools. Preventing and responding to (sexualised) violence”. From March 1st till March 4th 2022 more than 130 representatives of our schools from 23 countries, gathered in Ludwigshafen and online, to explore and discuss this extremely important issue.

Pastoral Webinar 2022

On January 27th Mission & Identity Formators and Pastoral Coordinators in our Primary and Secondary Schools met during the Pastoral Webinar.  The theme of our meeting was that of ‘’accompaniment’’, of walking with our colleagues as we accompany them in their professional lives. Using the biblical image of Jesus sending the disciples out ahead of him as he went about his mission the webinar explored  the reality of how we walk with our colleagues ‘from and into the heart of our Ignatian tradition”.

Annual Delegates Meeting 2021

As the last in-person meeting of the Delegates had been in Albania in 2019, it was a real delight for the European Education Delegates to actually gather in Lyon for this years meeting. Whilst most were able to gather in person, a few joined us virtually, one from as far away a place as Tomsk in Siberia. But this hybrid gathering did not diminish the pleasure and excitement of being with another again. There was a genuine joy in reconnecting and feeling part of the European network again.
