It is with great joy that we share the happy news that Fr. General Arturo Sosa, SJ, appointed Fr. Jimmy Bartolo, SJ, as the Worldwide Secretary for Secondary and Pre-Secondary Education. Fr. Bartolo will assume this role at the beginning of January 2026, thereby continuing the mission that has been successfully carried out for the last few years by Fr. José Mesa, SJ.

Fr. Jimmy is a prominent figure in the educational apostolate in Europe and is renowned for his dedication and commitment. He has been an invaluable member of the Board of Directors and Steering Committee of JECSE (Jesuit European Committee for Primary and Secondary Education), our network of schools, for several years. He is in our prayers and we wish him God’s blessing in his new mission.

Fr. Dalibor Renić, SJ, JCEP & JECSE President

Fr. Jimmy Bartolo, SJ has been associated with our educational apostolate over a long number of years. He joined Society of Jesus in 1986. Subsequent to his ordination, he was employed on a part-time basis as an educator at St Aloysius College Sixth Form. Between 2008 and 2011, he served as Chaplain and Assistant Principal at the same institution. Since 2013, he has served as Rector of St Aloysius College in Malta. Since 2015, he has been the Coordinator of the Association of Church Schools in Malta. From 2017 to 2022, he was the President of the Fondazione Gesuiti Educazione (the equivalent of the provincial delegate for education) of the Euro-Mediterranean Province. Fr. Jimmy has provided our global network of schools with invaluable support over the years. He has offered not only his expertise and experience, but also, most importantly, wise guidance on how to deepen our faith and strengthen our sense of mission.

We would be keen to take this opportunity to express our sincerest gratitude to Fr. José Mesa SJ, who has led our global network of schools for many years, fostering unprecedented levels of collaboration and cooperation. Thanks to his dedication and exemplary leadership, we are now able to convene periodically at JESEDU global meetings and to gather within our global Educate Magis community.

On behalf of the JECSE network, we offer our prayers and best wishes to them both, entrusting them to the guidance of the Holy Spirit during this transition period. We pray that they are granted all the necessary graces for their new ministries.
