Over the past year, the JECSE network has made significant progress in deepening our Ignatian Pedagogical Formation by launching a series of enriching training programmes. We began with the Learning by Refraction (LbR) approach as a foundational entry point. These initiatives have brought together educators from across Europe, building a strong, international community of practice rooted in Ignatian values and the IPP framework.

IPP Masterclass+ (Spring and Autumn 2024):

Led by Fr Johnny Go SJ and Ms Rita Atienza and supported by the experienced facilitators Yolanda Baquero (JECSE/Spain), Pedro Valente (Portugal), Amaia Arzamendi (Spain), Sara Saltic (Croatia), the IPP LbR Masterclass+ introduces participants to the fundamental elements of the IPP and the LbR approach. It also serves as an essential stepping stone for those wishing to become IPP trainers or facilitators within their schools and regions.

The Spring edition, held online from February to May 2024, gathered 49 educators from 12 countries, including Albania, Denmark, France, Germany, Lithuania, Malta, Italy, Ireland, Spain, Poland and Portugal. The Autumn edition that we recently finished, also held online, welcomed 66 participants from six countries, including Belgium, Italy, Lithuania, Malta, Portugal and Spain.

IPP in the Classroom (October 2024 – April 2025)

To support the ongoing integration of IPP into daily teaching practice, we launched a dedicated online accompaniment programme titled “IPP in the Classroom”. This formation invites participants to reflect deeply, share experiences, and grow together in applying Ignatian pedagogy in real classroom contexts. The Spring 2024 group included 36 educators from 8 countries (Albania, Croatia, Ireland, Malta, Italy, Lithuania, Spain, Portugal).

IPP Formators Training – Launched June 2024

In June, we were thrilled to begin a new chapter with the launch of the IPP Formators Training. 42 passionate educators from across Europe joined this journey, united in their desire to deepen their understanding of IPP and support others in their own contexts. They represent 10 countries: Albania, Belgium, Croatia, Hungary, Italy, Ireland, Malta, Spain, Portugal, Poland.

It was heartwarming to reconnect with familiar faces and welcome new members to our growing learning community. We look forward to continuing this formation with an online workshop in September, followed by an intensive in-person training with Fr Johnny Go SJ and Ms Rita Atienza — a chance to deepen our knowledge, reflect, and grow together in mission.
